The Châtelard VS historical Funicular holds the world record for the steepest two-carriage service (87%), Moreover this attraction has got many unusual technical particularities such as the large variations in the slope, the layout with curves, bends, depressions and humps, as well as tunnels. This implies particularly special characteristics for guiding the tractor cable, for example, the use of gantry for keeping the tractor cable down in the depressions while a ballast wagon on the upper part of the line compensates for the difference in the cable weight caused by the differences in the distance between the two carriages and the variations in the slope.

This is the first of the four Châtelard Attractions.
